2011 Brooklyn College Science Day: Four Midwood Students Receive Awards

Friday, May 13th, 2011 marked the 21st Annual Science Research Day at Brooklyn College. More than one hundred posters created by college and high school students were exhibited in the Brooklyn College Student Center. Four Midwood students shared two awards in the high school division.

  • Francisca Onyiuke & Mercy Palomeque – Third Place
    "Determination of Heart Rate Variability Using an Electronic Stethoscope." Francisca and Mercy worked with Dr. Jason M. Lazar of the Department of Cardiovascular Disease at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
  • Samantha Hogue, Margaret Lee, and Avis Karpman – Third Place
    "The Effect of Gravel on Procambarus Clarkii Spatial Exploration and Learning." Samantha, Margaret, and Avis worked with Dr. Frank Grasso of the Department of Psychology at Brooklyn College. (Samantha is a student at BASE — the Brooklyn Academy of Science and the Environment).
