Fariha Ahmed from the class of 2021 was the first author on a paper published in Electrochimica Acta for work that he did with Dr. Sophia Suarez in the Physics Department at Brooklyn College. As a high school student, Fariha studied electrolyte mixtures that have potential use in new types of batteries. He continued this work as an undergraduate in Dr. Suarez's Materials Research Laboratory.
First author and last author are the prestige positions on scientific papers. The first author is recognized as the contributor who did the most work (Fariha) and last author is often the head of the lab (Dr. Suarez). The second author, Professor Domenec Paterno, manages the Materials Research Laboratory and has supervised dozens of high school students in the past decade. Fariha also contributed to an abstract submitted to the 2023 meeting of the Electrochemical Society.
