Project: Data on the Faunal Composition of the Bayn Shireh Formation from the Late Cretaceous of Mongolia.

Project: Using a Khepera Robot to model the phototatic behavior of moths.

Amanda also won the US Metric Association Award "for the best use of the SI metric system in a science fair project."

NYCSEF is the New York City Department of Education’s annual science and technology research competition, coordinated by the City University of New York’s College Now program. On March 7, approximately 500 students from high schools across the city met at City College to display their scientific research projects. The top 20 to 25 percent in in each category were invited to participate in the Finals Event on March 23 at the American Museum of Natural History.

NYCSEF Preliminary Round

The Preliminary Round of the New York City Science and Engineering Fair (a.k.a. NYCSEF) will be held Sunday, March 7, 2010 at City College in Manhattan. All juniors and seniors will attend. (Sophomore attendance is optional.) Seniors show up at 8:00 AM, juniors and sophomores at 2:00 PM. The Fair ends at 4:00 PM. For more information consult this webpage or this website.

- Regina Gurevich
for her project "Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS), Accommodative and Vergence Facility." She worked with Dr. Mark Rosenfield in the Biology Department of the SUNY State College of Optometry.

for his project "The Preparation of Prunustatin." He worked with Dr. Jonathan Gough in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at Long Island University.

for her project "Regulation of the gene regulatory protein TFEB and the macrophage response modulator SIRP in mouse macrophages by pro- and anti-inflammatory immunological stimuli." She worked with Dr. Christopher Roman in the Molecular Biology and Genetics Department at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center

2008 New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF) and
2008 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)

NYCSEF is the New York City Department of Education’s annual science and technology research competition, coordinated by the City University of New York’s College Now program. In February, 650 students from high schools across the city met at City College to display their scientific research projects. The top 140 students advanced to the Finals Round in March and the top 18 go on to the International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in May. Midwood sent five students to the Finals Round this year with a sixth headed off to ISEF.

Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF)
- Na Xue
for her project "Rational design of novel anti-HIV peptides containing multi-functional domains." She worked with Dr. Shibo Jiang of the New York Blood Center. Na represented York City at the Intel ISEF in Atlanta, Georgia May 11-16, 2008 where she received a Fourth Place award in the Microbiology category.

- Vernon Wu
for his project "Potential Role for a PNC-27/28 peptide specific binding site in tumor cell plasma membrane to direct peptide dependent cytotoxicity." He worked with Dr. Josef Michl in the Pathology Department at SUNY Downstate Medical Center.
- Cindy Mei
for her project "Second Generation Asians in America: Academic Achievement Based on Cultural Differences and Family Expectations".
- Anna Krivolapova
for her project "Genome-Wide Modeling and Analysis of PX Domains from the Model Organism Arabidopsis thaliana." She worked with Dr. Shaneen M. Singh in the Biology Department of Brooklyn College
- Leon Telis
for his project "Characterization of a Mutant KlK3 Gene Product and Its Implications in Invasive Prostate Cancer." He worked with Dr. Todd Hricik at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Chemistry.
- Frank Tidd
for his project "Characterization of TFE-3 Protein Expression in Lipopolysaccharide Stimulated Macrophages and non-stimulated macrophages." He worked with Dr. Christopher Roman at SUNY Downstate Medical Center in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics.

2007 New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF)

NYCSEF is the New York City Department of Education’s annual science and technology research competition, coordinated by the New York Academy of Sciences in partnership with Polytechnic University. In early March, more than a thousand students from public and private high schools throughout the five boroughs met to display their scientific research projects or proposals in an Expo. The top 250 students are selected to participate in the Finals, where they compete for Awards totaling almost $2,000,000 in the form of cash, scholarships, and prizes. Midwood had two finalists this year. They were interviewed for the Academy’s Science and the City Podcast on March 30, 2007 (listen or download ).

was a Finalist and won an Energy and Transportation Award and an Air Force Award for his project "Identifying and Quantifying Traffic and Traffic Volumes to Reduce Traffic Congestion".
- Amanda Fried
was a Finalist and won a Social Science Award for her project "Analysis of Locus of Control in High School Students Based on Academic Performance".
- April Pruski
won the Ezra Levy High School Science Award for her project "Isolation and Purification of the Novel Pancreatic Antigen, PaCa-Ag1 (and its Amino Acid sequencing)". This award is sponsored by the American Association for Clinical Chemistry.

2004 New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF)

The 2004 New York City Science and Engineering Fair (NYCSEF), a two-tiered event comprised of the New York Academy of Science Expo on February 8 and the Polytechnic University Finals Competition on March 17, was the largest science fair in New York City history with more than 1100 student participants. The Grand Award sponsored by Olympus America, including $1500 to the student and a digital microscope to the school, was awarded to Mou Chung Ng. On May 9-15, 2004, NYCSEF Finalists will represent NYC at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Portland, Oregon.
